Frequently asked questions

How does the Cash+ category selection work?
Each quarter, you choose two categories for 5% and one for 2%. Options include fast food, TV/internet/streaming, cell phone providers, grocery stores, department stores, home utilities, ground transportation, EV charging, gas stations, drugstores, and gym memberships. The categories reset each quarter, and you must actively select them online or in the app.
Is 5% on two categories really worth it?
If you target your top spending categories, yes. 5% on groceries and fast food, for example, can earn $25/month on $500 spend in each category, or $300/year. That's excellent for a no-annual-fee card. The key is choosing categories that match your actual spending.
How does Cash+ compare to Chase Freedom Flex?
Both require category activation, but Cash+ lets you choose from a list while Freedom Flex gives you predetermined rotating categories. Cash+ is for planners who know their spending; Freedom Flex is for people who happen to spend on whatever Chase picks that quarter. Cash+ is more flexible but requires more effort.
What about the cell phone protection?
It covers damage and theft up to $600 per claim ($25 deductible, max $1,200/year) when you pay your cell phone bill with the card. This covers up to 3 lines. Most carrier insurance costs $10-15/month per line — so this benefit alone can save you $120-540/year.
Can I keep the same categories every quarter?
Yes, you can re-select the same categories each quarter. If groceries and streaming are always your top two, just re-choose them every quarter. Set a calendar reminder for day one of each quarter.
Is US Bank hard to get approved for?
They're inquiry-sensitive and prefer applicants with an existing US Bank relationship. Having a checking or savings account with them helps. They typically want 680+ FICO. Pre-qualify on their website first for a soft-pull check.
