Frequently Asked Questions

Is a credit card annual fee worth it?

It depends on your spending and whether you use the card's perks. A $95 annual fee card like Chase Sapphire Preferred earns its fee back if you spend $7,600+ on travel and dining. Premium cards like Amex Platinum ($695) require using $695+ in annual credits. Use our calculator to see exactly how much value you'd get.

What if I don't use all the perks?

Unused perks have zero value. A $300 travel credit is only worth $300 if you'd spend $300 on travel anyway. Our calculator lets you toggle which perks you'd actually use to see the realistic net value.

Should I downgrade to a no-annual-fee version?

If your calculated net value is negative, yes. Most premium cards have a no-fee sibling (e.g., Sapphire Preferred → Freedom Unlimited, Amex Platinum → Amex Green). You keep the account history and avoid a new hard inquiry.

Does the signup bonus count?

Signup bonuses are first-year value only. Our calculator shows ongoing value (without bonus). A card might be worth it in year one due to a signup bonus but not in subsequent years.
